چکیده
Experiments are contaminated by second-order error waves at sub- and super-harmonic frequencies when first-order wave generation is used. Herein, we investigate experiment the implications of theory for dynamic force run-up on a vertical wall in shallow to intermediate water depth (k0d=0.5?1.1). Results short-duration experiments using focused groups generated according first- compared. We isolate linear, sub-, contributions combinations inverted group time series filtering. derive theoretical predictions narrow-banded interacting with use this calculate depth-integrated wall, which show close agreement measured data. Comparisons reveal that sub-harmonic increasingly important depth, increasing up 67% 75% k0d=0.6 compared case correct (second-order) relatively short flume.

Extreme wave run-up on a vertical cliff
Wave impact and run-up onto vertical obstacles constitutes one of the main phenomena which have to be taken into account in the design of coastal structures. From the linear wave theory we know that the wave height on a vertical wall is twice the incident wave amplitude. Weakly nonlinear theories bring some small corrections to this result. However, in the present study we show that certain sim...
متن کاملPhysical simulation of resonant wave run-up on a beach
Nonlinear wave run-up on the beach caused by a harmonic wave maker located at some distance from the shore line is studied experimentally. It is revealed that under certain wave excitation frequencies, a significant increase in run-up amplification is observed. It is found that this amplification is due to the excitation of resonant mode in the region between the shoreline and wave maker. Frequ...
متن کاملNumerical Wave Tank Analysis of Wave Run-Up On a Truncated Vertical Cylinder
A new far-field closure condition for a CFD-based numerical wave tank that uses a potential wave solution to overlay the outer computational domain of a CFD solution is described. A prescribed potential wave solution covers the region beyond a diameter more than 10 times of floater footprints. The diffracted waves from the body are absorbed by the ‘potential-attractor’ terms applied in the inte...
متن کاملISPH Numerical Modeling of Nonlinear Wave Run-up on Steep Slopes
Non-breaking tsunami waves run-up on steep slopes can cause severe damages to coastal structures. The estimation of the wave run-up rate caused by tsunami waves are important to understand the performance and safety issues of the breakwater in practice. In this paper, an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method (ISPH) method was utilized for the 2DV numerical modeling of nonli...
متن کاملNumerical modeling of wave run-up along columns of semi-submersible platforms
Wave run-up is one of the most important and effective parameters in designing semi-submersible platforms. Besides unforeseen effects on the movements and response of the platform, wave run up can also cause slamming forces to be exerted on the lower deck of the platform. Therefore, at the first stages of this plan, before running tests on the model of the platform, numerical methods are usuall...
